The Plant Map

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add a map?

Maps can be custom‑uploaded, scanned with LiDAR, or drawn by hand. You must add a map before any plants will appear.

  1. Acquire your floor plan – either:
    • Find an existing PDF/image of your home’s floor plan.
    • Use a LiDAR‑based app to scan and export a floor plan image.
    • Draw your own plan on paper and take a clear photo or scan.
  2. Read and agree to the Terms of Service. Uploaded maps are at your own risk; any data loss is the user’s responsibility. We recommend enabling Face ID or passcode lock for extra security.
  3. Upload your map:
    • Go to Settings > Upload Map.
    • Select your image and tap “Save.”
  4. Select and save: Back in Settings, tap the grey outline of your map to select it, then hit “Save.”
  5. Return to the main screen – your map will now display, and you can start adding plants.

How do I add a plant?

  1. Tap the Settings icon in the top‑right corner.
  2. Enable Add/Move/Remove Plants.
  3. Tap anywhere on the map to place a new plant marker.
  4. If you’ve purchased additional plant slots, unlock more in Settings.

How do I remove a plant?

  1. Open Settings > Add/Move/Remove Plants.
  2. Switch to Remove mode at the top.
  3. Tap the plant you wish to delete.
  4. Confirm removal by tapping “Remove” at the bottom.

How does watering work?

There are three ways to water plants:

  1. Hold & Water: Press and hold a plant marker until the raindrop icon turns into a watering button.
  2. Swipe to Water: Tap a plant, then swipe the bottom panel to water it individually.
  3. Group Watering:
    • Enter Watering Mode by long‑pressing the water button (1.2 s) or enabling “Swipe to Water” in Settings.
    • Select multiple plants, pick a date, then confirm.
    • Future versions will include a “Fertilize” option here.

How do I scale or reposition my map?

If your uploaded map’s aspect ratio differs from the original, markers may shift slightly. To adjust:

  1. Go to Settings > Reposition Map.
  2. Use the X/Y sliders at the bottom to fine‑tune alignment.
  3. Tap “Done Repositioning” to save per‑device adjustments.
  4. To permanently bake in the new scale for all devices, tap “Save Scale.”

How do I start the demo?

  1. In Settings, tap “Delete All Maps & Plants.”
  2. The demo map and sample plants load automatically. If not, restart the app.
  3. You can explore freely—unlock more plants if you exceed the 10‑plant free limit.
  4. To exit the demo, press the green “Quit Demo” button or change the background map in Settings.

How do I backup or restore my data?

You must purchase the “Master Gardener” upgrade to use export/import.

  1. Tap Settings > Generate Export Data to create a ZIP file of your plant data.
  2. Use the share button to save or send the ZIP. Handle this carefully—contains personal data.
  3. The floor plan image itself is not backed up for privacy; save it separately.
  4. To restore, unzip the file, then in the unzipped folder tap the data file under Settings > Import.
  5. If no map is present, upload one first, then re‑import to see your plants.

Custom Shapes & Care Tasks

Shapes: Available to Hobbyists (25‑plant unlock) and Master Gardeners (unlimited). Bundles also include Cloud Group Snooze.

Care Tasks: Each plant has its own tasks. “Fertilize” is auto‑populated as Care Task 1. Other tasks can be edited/deleted via the pencil icon in the Care Task window. Grouped fertilize arrives soon.

How do outline colors work?

  1. Enable custom colors in Settings > Color Scheme > Enable Custom Colors.
  2. When plants exceed 100% of their watering interval, they flash orange. To avoid this, lengthen the interval or apply a Boost.

What are Boost Days?

Boost Days (“snooze days”) delay watering. Tap the number on a plant’s dial or swipe on the dial to adjust. If you’re at your plant limit, unlock more slots to use Boost freely.

What is Cloudy Days Snooze?

Cloudy Days Snooze lets you apply a group delay when it rains:

  1. Purchase a bundle and enable Settings > Advanced > Cloudy Days.
  2. Mark each “weather‑affected” plant: tap it, scroll to “Weather Affected,” and enable.
  3. In the main map, tap the cloud icon, then choose 1×, 2×, or 3× snooze. The snooze length is defined in Advanced Settings.
